About Charles

The Photographer

Charles is acknowledged as being one of the leading portrait photographers in the world.

He is a Fellow of the British Institute of Professional Photography, a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Art, a Fellow of the Master Photographers Association, and a Fellow of the American Society of Photography. He holds a Master degree and a Craftsman degree in Photography and Electronic Imaging from the Professional Photographers of America.

In 1992 Charles was awarded the exclusive contract of Official Investiture Photographer to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. Over the two decades that followed, he created portraits for more than 50,000 investiture recipients and their families.

He photographed the Queen and members of the British Royal Family on numerous occasions — and his portrait of Her Majesty appeared on the $20 Canadian banknote.

His portraits have been selected by the PPA for National Exhibitions, for display at the Epcot Centre in Florida, and are on loan to the Hall of Fame in Oklahoma. They have been chosen by the BIPP for National Exhibition and by the WCPP to tour the world. He has been presented with Gold Awards, Courts of Honour and the Ross Sandal International Award for his contribution to the advancement of international photography.

Charles was also a sought-after conference speaker who lectured throughout the UK, Europe, the USA, Asia and China. He judged and assessed photographic qualifications, spoke on radio, and appeared on television. He held one-man exhibitions at The Mall Galleries London, The Barbican Centre London, The NEC Birmingham, The Galleria Hatfield, and at art galleries and museums throughout the UK.
